The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality has issued a red/unhealthy air quality alert for the Treasure Valley.

The agency says "significant increase" in regional wildfire smoke has caused a deterioration in air quality conditions. Folks locally should expect to be in the red (unhealthy) and orange (unhealthy for sensitive groups) over the next few days.

All open outdoor burning is prohibited in Ada County.

Students throughout the Treasure Valley are being affected.

All students in the Boise School District will be kept inside due to the conditions, spokesman Dan Hollar told KBOI 2News. In addition, all athletic games scheduled for Tuesday have been canceled. Teams with practices will hold those sessions inside.

West Ada, Nampa, Middleton and Caldwell school district have also canceled outdoor games and moved practices indoors.
