Packed council meeting over proposed park expansion near Eagle

EAGLE, Idaho (KBOI) - It was standing room only at Tuesday's Eagle City Council meeting as those for, and against, a proposed expansion to the sports complex came to speak.

Those not in favor talked about the impact they think the expansion could have on the wildlife and plants in the area. Some neighbors were in favor of the project but did have concerns over things like increased noise.

"Prime time to make snow is at night," said Monte Stadler who lives next to the park. "I don't think very many people in that neighborhood would want to hear those machines running all night."

Still, many came out in favor of a new park saying it would give people a place to try new sports like skiing and wake boarding. Gateway Parks, the Boise company that wants to do the expansion, said the park is great for beginners.

Some residents think it would be good for kids and beginners to have a place to try new things.

"We need this," said Bob Young of Boise. "I've been teaching skiing here for 48 years we have had a lot of silly little kids you weren't paying attention to. They didn't have a place to start."

Others made the point that rising gas prices are putting some sports our of reach. Sports like wake boarding and skiing require a lot of fuel to either travel to, or operate a boat.
