Ore: Deputies: Man tried to rape, kill woman he met while fishing

SCAPPOOSE, Ore. - Columbia County sheriff's deputies arrested a man who they said tried to rape and kill a woman on Sunday.

Someone called 911 Sunday night when they saw a man repeatedly running his vehicle into a woman. The witness saw the man leave the injured woman near Wikstrom Road and Highway 30 in the Scappoose, Ore. area.

Deputies later arrested Micah Leroy Bills, 32, and took him to the Columbia County Jail.

Undersheriff Andy Moyer said Bills, who is a registered sex offender, met the victim while fishing in the Scappoose Dike area and kidnapped her. The two had not met before.

The injured woman was taken to a Portland hospital. She is expected to survive, Moyer said. Her name has not been released.

Bills faces the following charges:

  • Attempted murder

  • Kidnapping (1st degree)

  • Attempted kidnapping (1st degree) - 2 Counts

  • Assault (4th degree)

  • Attempted assault (1st degree) - 3 Counts

  • Attempted rape (1st degree)

  • Coercion

  • Menacing

  • Unlawful use of a Weapon - 4 Counts

  • Delivery and possession of cocaine

Bills was convicted of felony attempted sex abuse in 2007.
