Ore. company recalls pomegranate kernels in Idaho

BOISE, Idaho (AP) - An Oregon company has recalled frozen pomegranate kernels shipped to Idaho stores on concern they could be contaminated with hepatitis A.

The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare said Friday that the Scenic Fruit Company of Gresham, Ore., announced it is voluntarily recalling eight ounce bags of Woodstock Frozen Organic Pomegranate Kernels.

The agency says there have been no reported cases of the illness, a contagious liver disease that usually occurs when an infected food handler prepares food without appropriately washing his or her hands. | Additional Info

It can cause yellow eyes and skin and abdominal pain, but those infected usually recover completely.

Recalled bags were shipped to Idaho between February and May to a small number of retail stores in Coeur d'Alene, Moscow, Lewiston, Eagle, Meridian, Ketchum and Rigby.
