New plastic recycle protocol in Ada County

Some plastics, like the soda bottle on the left, will still be accepted. But other plastics, such as the food container on the right, will not. Republic Services will only accept plastics that are marked with a "one" or "two" in the triangle recycle symbol and have threaded necks. (KBOI photo)

You'll want to double-check your recycle bin if you live in Ada County.

Starting Jan. 1, the Ada County Solid Waste Advisory Committee says, you will no longer be allowed to recycle certain plastics in the county.

Republic Services will only accept plastics that are marked with a "one" or "two" in the triangle recycle symbol, and have threaded necks.

For example, plastic milk jugs, soda bottles, fruit juice bottles and laundry detergent jugs will still be accepted.

That means other types of plastic... like food containers and plastic bags... will no longer be accepted.

The change comes from a shift in global recycling markets. Republic Services also urges you to wash out recyclables before tossing them.
