New medical helicopter serving Yellowstone

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (AP) - A second medical helicopter has been stationed in eastern Idaho to respond to medical emergencies in Yellowstone National Park.

The Post Register reports that the Bell 407 GX helicopter at the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls started operating May 1.

The $4 million helicopter is operated by Air Methods Corp., an emergency medical services company that has fleet of more the 400 medical transport helicopters around the nation.

The helicopter serving Yellowstone National Park is staffed with a pilot, nurse and paramedic. It will operate from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week.

The helicopter is scheduled to operate to the end of September, when the tourist season starts winding down.
