'National Night Out brings us together as a neighborhood'

BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) - Dozens of neighborhoods around the Treasure Valley participated in National Night Out on Tuesday. The event is meant to bring neighbors together to help prevent crime.

Lisa Morgan has helped organize the event in her Boise neighborhood over the last four years, and said it's well worth it even for the face to face interaction.

"I know that our lives are so busy that sometimes we are passing and we see each other in the car, but we really never know actually who people are," said Morgan. "For us National Night Out brings us together as a neighborhood, and allows us to make friends."

Similar gatherings happen all around the country in an effort to reduce crime. Studies have shown when neighbors know each other the crime rate tends to drop.

Boise Police said that often times neighbors will know if something isn't right, or suspicious in their neighborhood.

Watchful neighbors have led to arrests in the past, and they can often tip police to suspicious activity.
