Nampa schools considering closing Sunny Ridge Elementary

BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) - The Nampa School District Board of Trustees is proposing to close Sunny Ridge Elementary School for the next school year as part of its plan to overcome a budget shortfall.

The district says most of the students from Sunny Ridge would attend nearby Lake Ridge Elementary School next year, and others would switch to Iowa and Reagan elementary schools.

District officials say they examined all of their elementary schools to determine which ones had lower populations and which had capacity to have more students.

Sunny Ridge currently has 392 students enrolled. The school was built in 1969 and doesn't have a lot of newer amenities, according to the district.

Lake Ridge was built in 2008.

The district sent letter home to parents Friday notifying them of the proposal.

The Board of Trustees is holding a special meeting Monday at 7 p.m. in the Nampa High School Little Theater to discuss the plan.

The public is welcome to attend and provide feedback at the meeting.
