Missing Nampa man found dead in Bogus Basin crash

BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) - A Nampa man has has died following a single-vehicle crash on Bogus Basin Road Thursday.

Boise County Dispatch says they received a call just before 4 p.m. that a vehicle had been seen down the embankment near milepost 11.

But it appears the crash may have occurred days earlier.

Boise County deputies identified the driver as 26-year-old Eian Wintz, who went mountain biking up on Bogus Basin Tuesday the night of the lightning storm.

He texted his girlfriend that he was on his way back down the mountain, but never made it home. The vehicle was found Thursday afternoon.

Deputies estimate the Dodge Ram truck fell about 400 feet down the hill. It's a stretch of road familiar with officials.

"We had an accident last year in the exact same spot and we used over 400 foot of cable to pull it up," said Boise County deputy chief Dale Rodgers.

A crew from Idaho Mountain Search and Rescue was called to the scene to assist with recovery.

Wintz's friends say he is an oil field worker in Alaska and has a house in Nampa. They say he is into wake boarding, snowboarding, and shooting and was a very outgoing friend.
