Meridian family missing after hunting trip found safe
MOUNTAIN HOME, Idaho (KBOI) -- The Elmore County Sheriff's Office says a Meridian family that went missing after a weekend hunting trip has been found.
Family members tell us they had been stranded by a mudslide.
The Idaho National Guard says an Apache helicopter located the family at the Graham Bridge Campground on Forest Service Road 312 Monday evening. They landed and spoke with the family, but because the Apache is a two-seat aircraft they were not able to fly the family out Monday night. The pilots left a survival kit with food, water, cold weather gear and a shelter.
Deputies say Steven and Heather Rice and their two teenagers left Meridian on Sunday morning for a day trip to the Middle Fork of the Boise River. They were expected home at 4 pm. Sunday but hadn't been seen since.
Elmore County Dispatch says all four family members are all ok and will be brought out Tuesday morning.
More information will be released Tuesday, according to dispatchers.
