Melba 14-year-old killed in car crash in Utah
MELBA, Idaho (KBOI) -- A 14-year-old Melba Junior-Senior high school student died in a car crash over the holiday weekend in Utah.
School officials say a car hit Nick Martinez, whose legal last name is Lunsford, in Utah on Friday. The freshman died Saturday in the hospital. KBOI media partner, the Idaho Press-Tribune, spoke to the school's principal who said grief counselors will be ready and available Monday morning for anyone who needs to talk.
"The Melba School District would like to convey our deepest sympathies to the Martinez family during this difficult time," the school said on its website. "Our thoughts and prayers are with you."
The teen's mother works as an aide at Melba Junior-Senior High School and his stepfather volunteers on a regular basis.
