Man 'missing' since 2008 was murdered, arrest made, sheriff says

IDAHO CITY, Idaho (KBOI) -- A man who went missing back in January of 2008 was murdered and police say a Nampa man is to blame.

The Boise County Sheriff's Office says Michael Dauber of Nampa was arrested Tuesday for murdering Steven Kalogerakos of Idaho City.

According to court documents, Dauber shot and killed Kalogerakos on or near Dec. 27, 2007 with a pistol. | Read the Court Docs

Dauber's arrest was the culmination of an investigation that has occurred over the past six years involving the Idaho City Police department, Boise County Sheriff's Office, Idaho State Police and the FBI, Boise County says.

Dauber, who's been charged in the first degree, is also charged with failing to notify authorities about a death, and use of a deadly weapon in commission of a felony.

KBOI 2News talked with Kalogerakos' sister, Maria, back in 2008 about her brother's apparent disappearance. At the time, police had said foul play was not involved.

"I don't know what to believe at this point," Maria said. "You have so much running through your head, there are so many unanswered questions."

Dauber was booked into the Canyon County Jail earlier this week. Thursday evening he was transferred to the Ada County Jail.
