Man drowns in Snake River near Idaho Falls

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (AP) - A man who tried to swim to an island in the Snake River in Idaho Falls has drowned.

Bonneville County officials say the man and two others were swimming in the river just after 9 p.m. Thursday, but the victim did not make it back to shore. Dive crews searched the area near Keefer's Island for about an hour, delaying the start of the city's fireworks display until 11 p.m.

The man's body was recovered at about 1:15 a.m. Friday.

Officials say the man was in his mid-20s. His name hasn't been released.
