Local teen with cancer says "it would be the coolest thing ever" about his wish

BOISE, Idaho - KBOI-TV 2News is highlighting a local Make-A-Wish child every Sunday through the holidays as part of our Season of Wishes.

We caught up with Sam Jacobson at Ice World in Boise. The 16-year-old says he lives for the thrill of being in the rink.

"I've played hockey for as long as I can remember," Jacobson said.

Jacobson is fighting cancer. When Make-A-Wish let him know he could pick pretty much anything he wanted he says it was an easy choice.

"My wish is to go to Washington D.C. and meet Alex Ovechkin and the rest of the Capitals hockey team," Jacobson said.

The Boise teen says he has liked the Capitals since watching Ovechkin play on the team a few years ago.

"I thought he was probably the best player ever," Jacobson said.

His wish granter, Brenda Vogt, says it's been fun planning the dream meeting. Right now it's just a waiting game to find out when Jacobson will be heading to D.C.

"We've been checking our e-mails and holding our breath waiting to see when it will happen," Vogt said.

Jacobson says he's sure it will be worth the wait.

"It'd be great because they've been my favorite team," Jacobson said. "To meet them and watch games in the stadium... that would be the coolest thing ever."

Right now there are 24 kids in the Treasure Valley waiting to have their wish granted. If you would like to help the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Idaho head to the website
