Local businesses finding start-up money through crowd funding

BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) - Local businesses, including several breweries, are getting a large amount of money through crowd funding websites like Kickstarter, while creating a buzz for their product.

Boise Brewing Company opened their doors on June 13. While their Kickstarter funding of $30,000 dollars was only a small portion of the total costs, President Collin Rudeen said more importantly, it showed people were interested in his product.

"More important than that I think was the ability to test the water, and we got a financial dollar response from the community so people thought it was a good idea," Rudeen said.

Other breweries in the Treasure Valley have also found success in getting extra money from crowd sourcing.

Rudeen used a somewhat similar model when raising the rest of the funds for the business. Boise Brewing is known more as a community based business, which means they have an unlimited amount of investors. There are 232 different owners who helped raise $450,000.

Other projects that are also finding success locally on crowd sourcing sites are movies and charitable organizations.
