Large brush fire near Mayfield contained

BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) - Fire crews from the Bureau of Land Management responded to a large brush fire in Elmore County near Mayfield Friday night.

BLM says the fire burned 6.185 acres and threatened structures in Mayfield. It was contained at about 7 a.m. and no homes ended up being damaged.

The Mountain Home Fire Department joined BLM on scene to help protect the structures.

Officials say air tankers pre-treated areas near the houses with retardant just in case the flames get close.

The air tankers have since had to stand down because of the darkness. | Photos of the Fire

BLM dispatched eight engines, two bulldozers, a helicopter, and a water tender to fight the blaze.

After the fire broke out, wind in the area blew the smoke across the valley.
