Judge rules north Idaho renewal districts can stay open

LEWISTON, Idaho (AP) - Nez Perce County has turned over nearly $500,000 in property taxes to the city of Lewiston following a judge's ruling maintaining two urban renewal districts.

County Clerk Auditor Patty O. Weeks tells the Lewiston Tribune that her office hand-delivered the money on Friday.

Earlier in the day 2nd District Judge Michael J. Griffin denied a motion to clarify and reconsider his December ruling against a Nez Perce County petition to close the taxing districts.

Up to that point Weeks had been withholding the tax disbursement at the instruction of Nez Perce County Prosecutor Dan Spickler.

Griffin in his ruling rejected Spickler's motion asking Griffin to reconsider an earlier decision not to close the Lewiston Urban Renewal Agency districts in North Lewiston and Nez Perce Terrace.

Griffin says Spickler offered no new evidence.
