Idahoans pay tribute to officers who made the ultimate sacrifice
MERIDIAN, Idaho (KBOI) —
Families, friends and law enforcement officers gathered at the Idaho Peace Officers Memorial in celebration of National Police Week.
In a candle light vigil, people came out to recognize all that officers do for not only each other but their communities.
“It’s a night of fellowship and remembrance and a time that everyone can get to together to remember those who gave their life in defense of this state,” said ISP Lt. Col. Sheldon Kelley.
This memorial in particular was located on the grounds of ISP headquarters and serves as a place of solace for the families of fallen police officers and also honors those who are currently serving.
Tonight's vigil specifically, was a tribute to officers who have sacrificed to keep the people safe.
The ceremony started with the ringing of 21 bells in remembrance of the 21 officers on the Idaho Peace Officers Memorial who have fallen in the line of duty.
