Highway 21 north of Idaho City back open after mudslide

BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) -- A mudslide that closed Highway 21 about seven miles north of Idaho City overnight and into the morning is starting to get cleaned up.

The Idaho Transportation Department says debris from a mudslide plugged a culvert. Drivers were unable to get from Lowman to Idaho City during the closure, however, ITD says one lane of travel is open with a pilot vehicle.

Boise County has been hit hard by rain over the last couple of days.

The U.S. Forest service says Atlanta received more than two inches of rain in two hours, leading to slides, road cutting, mud flows and large rocks on roads.
