High volume reported on Day 2 of state health insurance exchange

BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) -- Some compared Tuesday's launch of health insurance exchange websites nationwide to Cyber Monday, the busy online shopping day the Monday after Thanksgiving.

Heavy traffic was reported everywhere and Idaho's online exchange was no different.

"There's a lot of interest and high demand," said Amy Dowd, executive director of Your Health Idaho, the state health insurance exchange."People have a lot of questions. They want to learn and perhaps are ready to enroll already."

In fact, so many people are accessing the website right now it's causing delays on the website so the insurance exchange is asking people to please be patient.

The call center alone got some 500 calls on day one.

"They're asking a wide range of questions," said Dowd. "But they're really asking how they can get help."

And in turn, the exchange is asking for a lot of information to determine eligibility for assistance with premiums.

"So you basically have to supply information on size of household, your income, dependents and additional information to verify who you are," she said.

And Dowd says actual enrollment numbers won't be available for some time. But she says steps to eliminate the delays are being carried out immediately.
