Health officials reporting more cases of West Nile virus

PAYETTE COUNTY, Idaho (KBOI) - Health officials say several more people in southwest Idaho have contacted the West Nile virus.

Payette County is reporting three human cases of West Nile. In addition to the newly reported case in Washington County, a new case was also reported from Owyhee County, says Southwest District Health.

David Loper, director of environmental services, says to avoid becoming sick with West Nile, ideally you should avoid outside activity during times mosquitoes carrying West Nile are active - usually during the evening and early morning hours.

Mosquito pools, positive with West Nile Virus, have been reported in Ada, Adams, Canyon, Gem, Gooding, Owyhee, Payette, Twin Falls, Valley, and Washington Counties in Idaho.
