Fisherman missing, swept away in Snake River

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) - Crews are searching the Snake River in south-central Idaho for a fisherman who was swept away while trying to cross the river on Sunday.

Jerome County Sheriff Doug McFall says the man and his friend had hiked down into the canyon near Hansen Bridge to fish on Sunday, but were unable to safely hike back up the steep hill. At some point they decided to try to cross the river and one man was swept away.

Their families called the sheriff's office at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday when the men did not return home.

Officers spent the night along the river with the surviving man and they were able to safely hike out Monday morning.

Crews were searching by land, boat and air Monday morning for the missing man. His name hasn't been released.
