Eastern Idaho man struck and killed by vehicle

ROBERTS, Idaho (AP) - Idaho State Police say an eastern Idaho man has died after being hit by a vehicle.

Police say 65-year-old Allen Clayton of Roberts died Saturday after being struck by a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban while walking on State Highway 48.

Police say Clayton was walking east on the paved portion of the westbound lane at about 2:45 p.m. when he was struck by the westbound vehicle driven by 23-year-old Timothy "Shawn" Meier of Menan.

Police say Meier swerved to try to avoid Clayton but struck him with the right side of the Suburban.

Clayton was flown to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center where he died.

The crash remains under investigation.
