Duo busted for coin-operated newspaper boxes theft, police say

GARDEN CITY, Idaho (KBOI) - Police have arrested two Garden City men over allegations that they stole thousands of dollars from local newspaper coin operated boxes.

Garden City Police says Henry Guntrum Jr., 40, and Chad Atwood, 30, have been booked into the Ada County Jail on grand theft charges.

GCPD says the two men are responsible for stealing 17 Idaho Statesman coin-operated newspaper boxes around town. They allegedly stole more than $12,000.

Detectives were able to identify a potential suspect through interviews and surveillance. On Tuesday morning, officers arrested Guntrum and Atwood as they were in the process of unloading a stolen box from a pick-up truck.

Detectives also later discovered seven newspaper boxes that were discarded off Highway 21 near Lucky Peak.
