Court denies case of Caldwell man convicted in wife's death

BOISE, Idaho (AP) The Idaho Court of Appeals has upheld a lower court decision rejecting the appeal of a Caldwell man convicted of shooting and killing his wife three years ago.

Chris Stone is serving a 20-year sentence on a second-degree murder charge in the slaying of 32-year-old Florence Stone.

At the time of the shooting, Chris Stone initially told investigators he was defending himself from his wife. But he later admitted in court that he held his wife down, shot her twice then stabbed himself in the stomach to look like he was at risk.

In his appeal, Stone argued his statements to police after the shooting were coerced and should be suppressed.

But in an opinion issued Tuesday, all three appellate judges disagreed and concluded Stone's statements were voluntary.
