Christmas travel may break records

BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) - If you are planning on traveling this holiday season, you are not alone. Big crowds are expected to hit the roadways and AAA says, this season could be the busiest travel season in 6 years.

The highways will be more crowded than ever, largely because airlines have raised prices and cut the number of seats available. For the holidays 1 in 4 Americans will be driving long distances, which means plenty of traffic jams and crowded highways.

A total of 93.3 million Americans will be hitting the road, which is 1.6 percent higher than last year. Plus, around 84 million people will drive at least 50 miles between December 22nd and January 1st, which is a new holiday record.

AAA also recommends keeping an emergency kit in your car, in case you run into trouble this holiday season.
