Investigators have discovered the cause of a road that collapsed onto a pipe in Canyon County, flooding many homes.

Canyon County Highway District 4's Director Dave Jones say during the investigation into the collapse a bridge inspector was contacted.

The inspector said the pipe under Midway Road was inspected for the City of Caldwell in January 2013.

The pipe was listed as critical with deterioration and some buckling.

Canyon County Highway District 4 looked through their records. They say they never received the inspection report.

It is unclear at this time who will be held responsible for the damaged pipe.

On Thursday board members from Canyon County Highway District 4 spoke to those affected by the flooding and spent time inside of their damaged homes.

Volunteers from Nampa, Caldwell and Canyon County were also there for several hours providing assistance.

The Highway District says the cause of the broken pipe is not their main concern. They are focused on helping these homeowners get back on their feet before winter arrives.
