Cable One drops Viacom channels after negotiations fail
BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) - Cable One is dropping 15 channels from programmer Viacom after carriage negotiations failed to meet the deadline Monday night.
Cable One says that Viacom is demanding a 100% increase in fees for their programming, even though the ratings for most of the channels are down, and that those costs would have to be passed on to the subscriber.
Viacom disputes that and says that the viewership for 13 of their 15 channels is up in the last ratings period and that one out of every five cable viewers under the ago of 50 is watching a Viacom channel at any given time.
The channels being dropped are:
- Comedy Central
- MTV Hits
- Nick Jr.
- Nick Teen
- Nick Toons
- Spike TV
- TV LAND
- VH-1 Classic
Cable One says the channels will be replaced by new ones including BBC America, Sprout, Investigation Discovery, the Blaze, Hallmark Channel, National Geographic, TV One, and Sundance.
Both companies have websites devoted to telling their respective sides of the story.
