Boise Fire Department gears up for Fourth fireworks

BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) -- Fourth of July revelers are busy stocking up on fireworks for Independence Day.

"We're gonna be at Ann Morrison Park watching the big fireworks, having a barbeque, setting of the little fireworks with the kids." said Jessica Moore of Boise.

And of course, the Boise Fire Department is urging everyone to use precautions as they set off their fireworks this Fourth of July.
he Boise Fire Department is also gearing up for any fireworks that get out of control.

And grass fires are a big worry.

So on the Fourth starting at noon, they'll bring in 11 extra firefighters and staff six extra brush trucks and a water tender.

They're also concerned about the heat. For one thing, it intensifies fire behavior.

"And then also there's the effect on the firefighters," said Battalion Chief JD Ellis. "The heat stress on firefighters is a huge concern."

And there's plenty of reason for worry.

According to the National Council on Fireworks Safety, fireworks cause some 20,000 fires a year.
