Boise boy with rare cancer gets 1,500+ cards for birthday

15-year-old Jorge Ibanez has been sent more than 1500 cards from countries all over the globe.

A boy in the Treasure Valley, battling a rare type of cancer, asked for cards for his birthday and the world delivered!

15-year-old Jorge Ibanez has been sent more than 1500 cards from countries all over the globe.

"He’s so excited he doesn’t know what to say. He’s like saying thank you, smiling, laughing, he’s just happy!” said Sidney Donaldson, Jorge's stepdad.

On top of that, he's gotten gift cards, toys, enough balloons to fill his living room and even an iPad! But, Jorge's parents say the best thing he's gotten from all of this is the strength to keep fighting.

"He’s stronger now that everyone’s behind him, pulling for him, praying for him, he’s stronger every day," said Sidney.

In June, Jorge was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a cancer that starts in the cells that form bones.

Since then, he has undergone several chemotherapy treatments and has many more to go. On September 21st he'll undergo surgery to have the tumor in his knee removed.

He's expected to be finished with chemo in January. Fortunately, he has plenty of cards to keep his spirits lifted through that time.

Jorge's a man of few words but he said "thank you" to everyone who has been thinking of him.
