The Idaho Department of Correction is sending more Idaho inmates to a a facility in Texas, as bed shortages continue to create overcrowding concerns at the state's prisons and jails.

The shortage prompted the department to move 56 more male inmates to the Karnes County Correctional Center in Karnes City, Texas. These inmates will join 250 other Idaho inmates already transferred to the facility back in February and March of this year. In late March, some of Idaho's inmates were accused of damaging several items in the facility.

IDOC says it is working with the Karnes County Correctional Center on a deal for the use of additional beds until a long-term agreement is reached about how to possibly account for the incarceration of up to 1,000 inmates at an out-of-state facility.
