As economy improves teens still struggle to find work

MERIDIAN, Idaho (KBOI) - For Ericka Vives,15, getting a job as a greeter at Roaring Springs Water Park was no easy task. In fact, she had been turned down the year before.

Taking advice from her sister she not only filled out an application, but put a resume and cover letter with it. She says it also helped that she submitted it in December. Even then she worried about not getting hired.

"I definitely was worried that I would be just another teenager staying at home doing nothing during the summer," said Vives.

Roaring Springs received around 1500 applications for jobs this summer. They only hire a handful from that because about 60 percent of employees have returned from previous years.

Another factor still hurting teens job prospects are older workers taking jobs in industries like food service.
