Amazing video of Russian meteorite

CHELYABINSK, Russia (AP) -A meteor exploded in the sky above Russia's Ural Mountains on Friday, causing a shockwave that blew out countless windows and injured more than a thousand people.

Katie Devine is a physics professor at the College of Idaho. She explains why the meteor caused so much damage.

"What happens is you've got this thing moving at tremendous speed, so it basically pushes the air out in front of it and causes this tremendous shockwave. So what broke the glass wasn't actually pieces of rock, it was that shockwave," Devine says.
