Ada County: 'spoof' calls are on the rise
BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) —
Ada County Officials say "spoof" phone calls are on the rise.
Here's how it works: phone scammers will call from a local phone number to get you to pick up, then will try to convince you to buy something or that you owe someone money. That's when scammers will ask for your credit card number.
Ada County Sheriff's Office deputies say no Ada County employee will ever call and ask you for a credit card number.
Police say the calls can appear to come from businesses, a government agency or even friends. Police say to protect yourself, never give out personal information when getting an unsolicited phone call.
If you have received one of these scam phone calls, contact the Ada County Sheriff’s Office at 377-6790 or the Better Business Bureau online at BBB.org.
