ACHD may reverse their decision on parking meters

BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) - Ada County Highway District Commissioner Rebecca Arnold said the City of Boise didn't disclose other options for sensors going into the roadway to be used with the new parking meters being installed. She now wants to reconsider the issue.

During their meeting on July 24th, the commissioners voted 3-2 to approve the Master License Agreement with the City of Boise. It included allowing the city to install sensors from new parking meters into the roadway.

Commissioner Arnold said alternatives, such as putting the sensors on the parking meters themselves, would be cheaper and would avoid extra cost in maintenance and road repair. Although in the agreement with the city, it has them dealing with the sensors for any repairs.

The city says they did look into the matter, but noted installing sensors above ground is not the industry standard. They worry they won't collect data as well, and will be prone to vandalism.

The issue will be reconsidered at their August 7th meeting. The city of Boise says they will be happy to attend and answer any questions the commissioners have.
