$2M in improvements at Evel Knievel jump site considered
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) - Twin Falls City Council members are considering nearly $2 million in improvements to the site of Evel Knievel's unsuccessful Snake River Canyon jump.
The Times-News reports that is the amount it would take to build roads, trails and other amenities.
A Texas stuntman named Ed Beckley is planning to jump the canyon in 2014 after being awarded a lease by the state.
City Manager Travis Rothweiler says he will take the report to Beckley to negotiate what items each side would be willing to fund.
Councilman Shawn Barigar says the council needs to think about which improvements would be critical to a successful jump.
Barigar says pavement and fencing to connect the canyon rim walking trail is needed.
Rothweiler says that cost should be required for Beckley but the rest is negotiable.
