RESULTS: Idaho teams compete in Utah's Regional FIRST Robotics

Five of Idaho's FIRST Robotics teams traveled to Salt Lake City this weekend to compete in Utah's Regional competition.

While none of our five teams got the golden ticket to the FIRST Championship in Houston this spring, this isn't the end of the road for them or their robots.

IDAHO REGIONAL FIRST ROBOTICS

Idaho is hosting a FIRST Robotics Regional event of its own on the weekend of March 30th, at Boise State University's Taco Bell Arena.

Our local teams say competing in Utah helps them to recognize their strengths and weaknesses as a team in order to figure out how to improve on both for the competition in Boise.

"There are a lot of high stress environments and things you never think would happen [that] happen," said Letizia Moro, a member of team V.E.R.N. from Boise. "So, we learn a lot at competition so we'll be more ready for the Idaho Regional."

BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD

For now, the team's robots are sealed back in bag waiting to give it another go in a few weeks.

Meanwhile, the teams themselves are calculating their next moves.

Each team has a unique strategy for what they think will get them to the Championship — from the Bullbot's epic levitating trick to team V.E.R.N.'s dual ramps to pull other teams up with them.

At this point, it's still anyone's game!

UTAH REGIONAL RESULTS AND HIGHLIGHTS

Bullbots — Meridian, Idaho — Rank #24 — Made it into Semifinals with teams MVRT from California and The Hi Fives from Colorado.

Chickadees — Boise, Idaho — Rank #41

V.E.R.N. — Boise, Idaho — Rank #18

Naskcorpions — Nampa, Idaho — Rank #22

The Buhlean Operators — Buhl, Idaho — Rank #32

The three finalists who will be moving on to FIRST Championship in Houston include Citrus Circuits from California, Eagle Robotics from California, and The Kraken from Colorado.

A team from Chile, named Chilean Heart, will also be heading to FIRST Championship for receiving the Chairman's Award, a prestigious award recognizing a team's commitment to all things FIRST aims to represent.
