Tim Onofrei out after 13 years as NNU basball coach

NAMPA, Idaho - Northwest Nazarene University athletic director Bill Rapp has announced that the contract of head baseball coach Tim Onofrei will not be renewed for the 2013-14 season.

Onofrei, who recently completed his 13th year as head coach, compiled a career record of 285-356 overall and a 142-188 mark in Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) games. He also served as pitching coach for the Crusaders for two seasons under head coach Brian Muir.

"We want to thank Tim for his loyal service to NNU for the past 15 years," Rapp commented. "Tim has made a real difference in the lives of our student-athletes and we want to honor him for that."

His tenure at the helm was highlighted in 2008 and 2010 as the Crusaders set a new single-season team win record during the 2008 season with a 32-22 record and posted the first winning record for the program since 1983. In 2010 the Crusaders claimed second-place in the GNAC with a 21-11 conference record, the highest conference finish for NNU baseball since the transition to NCAA Division II.

Under his guidance, three Crusaders were drafted by Major League Baseball teams and included Roger Evenson (Chicago Cubs - 2005), Nick Ray (Baltimore Orioles - 2007) and Zeb Sneed (Kansas City Royals - 2012).

A national search will begin immediately. Media inquiries should be directed to assistant athletic director Craig Stensgaard at 208-880-0141 or
