Charges unsealed in shooting of Idaho deputies

CALDWELL, Idaho (AP) - Charges against a southwestern Idaho man suspected of shooting two Canyon County sheriff's deputies have been unsealed in state court.

The Idaho Press-Tribune reports 28-year-old Kyle Alan Batt is charged with two counts of assault on a law enforcement officer, two counts of inflicting great bodily injury, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and resisting or obstructing police. Batt has already been sentenced to 15 years in prison on federal gun charges in connection with the case.

Prosecutors say Batt fled when deputies tried to arrest him last October and that he then led them into an ambush, shooting both multiple times. Both deputies survived: Brad Childers returned to work shortly after the shooting, and Mike Roth is still waiting for bone damage in his arm to heal.
