Car burglars plow through garage of Nampa home

NAMPA, Idaho (KBOI) -- Police say four people breaking into cars early Thursday morning ended up plowing through a garage door.

"A really loud noise woke me straight out of my sleep," Jenn Mercer said. "I didn't know what it was. It sounded like a bomb or somebody had broken into a window."

Jenn and Tom Mercer live in the home with their four children.

"The pillars on each side of the garage had caved in, the whole middle of the garage had collapsed so the structure is pretty much shot," Jenn said.

Tom's blue car was parked in the driveway when they went to bed.

"He slid all the way, still hit my car hard enough to bring it into the garage with their car," Tom said.

Police say they arrested Benigno Rocha, 22, who's also a local rapper and goes by the name "Big Happy." He has been charged with burglary and grand theft. He was scheduled to be arraigned Friday. The three others in the car with Rocha got away.

At the scene of the crash, officers say they found "numerous items that they believe were stolen from vehicles and open garages," including power tools and stereos. Those could have come from the Lake Point subdivision where the four were seen breaking into cars.
